The Offices of Alumni Engagement and Athletics have teamed up to present Coffee with the Coaches, a series of Zoom panels that give alumni, fans and parents an insider's look at Stonehill's athletic teams.
Grab a cup of coffee and join Doug Monson, assistant director of athletics, on Friday, February 11th, for Coffee with the Coaches, a conversation with Women's Ice Hockey Head Coach and 2014 Olympic Gold Medalist Tara Watchorn and Assistant Coach Megan Myers.
Following four years as an assistant coach under long-time mentor Brian Durocher at her alma mater, Boston University, Watchorn joins Stonehill in preparation of the inaugural Women’s Ice Hockey season which will take place in 2022-2023 as part of the NEWHA Division I Conference.
In addition to her on-ice responsibilities as the first BU alum to return as a full-time women’s ice hockey assistant coach, Watchorn was instrumental in the Terriers’ student-athlete recruiting efforts, leading the program’s alumni relations activities and mentoring Terrier captains, helping them engage the team in community and equality initiatives.
A member of the 2014 Canadian National Team that won the gold medal at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, Watchorn enjoyed an 11-year playing career for Team Canada as a defenseman in which she appeared in 46 games in international competition as a three-time International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Women’s World Championship silver medalist (2011, 2015, 2016), and two-time gold medalist at the 4 Nations Cup (2013, 2014), in addition to her Olympic gold medal.
A 2012 graduate of Boston University, Watchorn is currently working towards her Master of Science in Organizational Leadership at Northeastern University.
Coach Watchorn will be joined by Assistant Coach Megan Myers. A teammate of Watchorn during their playing days for the Boston Blades of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL), Myers served five years as an assistant coach at Becker College in Worcester, Massachusetts.
Myers earned her Bachelor of Science degree in therapeutic recreation from Utica College of Syracuse University in 2014. A four-time All-ECAC selection for the Pioneers, she served as captain her senior year and earned CCM All-America honors. Myers finished her collegiate career with 74 goals and 69 assists for 143 points, career totals which still rank first in program history for goals, second in points and fourth for assists.
